The Rochdale Ethnic Minority Business Support team are celebrating a successful third year of their Annual Business Exhibition and Awards evening. The Business Awards highlight the success of many ethnic businesses, with strong competition in all categories for the top prize.
The Business Awards Gala evening included speeches by Councillor Paul Rowen, MP for Rochdale; Den Dover, Conservative MEP for the North West, Trevor Jee, CEO of Bramall Construction and Tony Deep, CEO of East End Foods. Musical entertainment was provided by Seela with Whirling Dervishes.
Excitement built amongst the hundreds of guests as the award winners were announced. This year, there were 8 business award categories.
Business of the Year Award
This prestigious award, sponsored by Lloyds/TSB, went to The Asian Leader.
The Asian Leader is a highly successful newspaper for the Asian community. Having started in Rochdale in 2001, the paper now has a circulation of over 30,000 across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Yorkshire.
New Business Start Up Award
Sponsored by TBV Business Services, this award was won by Keystone Estate Agents and Lettings Specialists
Keystone provides residential property lettings and estate agency services in the Rochdale area, with an emphasis on providing a simple and efficient service to clients.
Business Woman of the Year Award
Seeros Designerwear was the winner of this award, sponsored by Kingsway,.
Seeros is a designer fashion outlet specialising in exclusive ranges and one off designer pieces, catering for young, modern, working women.
ICT/Innovation Award
The ICT/Innovation Award, sponsored by Hopwood Hall College, was won by Reach BCS.
Reach BCS is an innovative group of designers, marketers, web developers and programmers which operate at the forefront of graphic design and web based technologies, offering a comprehensive range of services to clients.
Workforce Development Award
Awarded to Drive UK and sponsored by Bramall Construction.
Drive UK provide training for learner drivers and have also developed a programme for training driving instructors and actively encourage women to train with them. To date, they have trained 35 instructors who are now operating in the Greater Manchester area.
Service Excellence Award
This award, sponsored by Revitalising Inner Rochdale, went to Sahara Grill.
Sahara Grill is a contemporary catering company providing a dine in and buffet service for families and businesses in the Rochdale and surrounding areas.
Retail Award
The Retail Award, sponsored by Revitalising Inner Rochdale, went to Home2Home.
Home2Home retails quality branded furniture and prides itself on training staff to ensure excellent customer service.
Health, Safety & Environmental Award
Sponsored by Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale, this award was won by TJ Refrigeration.
TJ Refrigeration specialises in the design, installation and maintenance of commercial refrigeration and air conditioning. Started in 1979, TJ has contracts with major blue chip companies and their health, safety and environmental policies and procedures have to meet the highest standards.
Special Recognition Awards
The independent judging panel, consisting of Lloyds/TSB, Molesworth Bright Clegg Solicitors, TBV Business Services and Celltek, felt that two businesses deserved special recognition for their outstanding efforts and business success.
The first of these awards went to RAM Clearances
Robert Myatt set up his house clearance business with assistance from Business in Mind following an accident that left him with a brain clot and short term memory problems. His business has been so successful that he has now set up a shop, Sugar Rays, which sells new and second hand furniture.
The second award went to Nahda Technologies
Since starting up in 2005, Nahda Technologies have established themselves as a key local provider of IT support services. Their aim is to give their clients the best operational advantage possible through a structured use of IT.
Community Award
The final award of the evening, the Community Award, was sponsored by NatWest. The winner of this award was Tracie Powers of Urban Gallery, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to community involvement.
